Fianchetto

Review · Analyse · Train

A personal chess coach on your phone. Import your Lichess and Chess.com games, get a full engine review that tells the story of the game, and train on puzzles built from your own mistakes. Two engines run on the device — nothing goes to a cloud, and there is no account.

For Android, iPhone and iPad. Free with ads — Fianchetto Unlimited is optional.

100% offline analysis, no cloud
10 move grades, from brilliant to blunder

The loop that makes you better

Not another puzzle database. Fianchetto learns from the games you actually played.

Import

Type your Lichess or Chess.com username, paste a link or a PGN file.

Review

Every move graded, accuracy per phase, key moments and a written story.

Train

Your mistakes become puzzles, served again with spaced repetition.

Track

A Game Score, a six-axis skill radar and one focus for the week.

A game review that reads like a coach

Numbers tell you that you lost. The review tells you where and why.

Every move graded
  • !!17. Rxe6!! Brilliant — a real sacrifice that holds
  • ★21. Qh5 Best move
  • ?!24. a3 Inaccuracy — Nd4 was stronger
  • ?29. Kh1 Mistake — allows …Rf2
  • ??33. Qxb7 Blunder — drops the rook

The story of the game

After the review, Fianchetto writes the game up in chapters tied to the key moments — with arrows and highlights on the board — in English or Polish, in a popular or a technical tone.

“White won the opening battle, but the middlegame turned on move 29: Kh1 stepped away from the threat that wasn't there and let Black's rook in on f2.”

Quick or deep

A quick review catches the obvious errors and most tactics in seconds. Want more? Deepen the same game without starting over. Review a whole folder at once with batch analysis.

Ten grades: brilliant, great, best, excellent, good, book, inaccuracy, mistake, blunder and missed win — plus accuracy, average centipawn loss and accuracy for the opening, middlegame and endgame separately.

Puzzles made from your own mistakes

The positions you got wrong, coming back until you get them right.

Spaced repetition

Every mistake found in a review becomes a puzzle: the position just before it, your side to move. Find the engine's move in up to three tries. Solve it first time and it comes back in days; miss it and it comes back tomorrow. It is the same idea flashcard apps use to make things stick — applied to your own games.

Daily puzzles with a streak, a hard mode that asks for the whole engine line rather than just the first move, and filters by opening, tactical motif and game phase.

Your openings

Every opening you actually play, sorted by how often. Win rate, accuracy, the moment you usually go wrong, recurring mistakes with board previews — and the puzzles from that opening, one tap away.

Your game

A Game Score from 0 to 100, a playstyle badge, a six-axis skill radar, your strongest and weakest side, a tactics heatmap — and one focus for the week, the mistake you repeat the most.

Two engines, two characters

One shows you the objectively best move. The other plays the way people do.

Caissa

~3770 Elo

A modern NNUE engine and one of the strongest in the world. Its neural network is downloaded once, on request, and then works offline. Use it when you want the truth about a position.

Arasan

~2700 Elo

A classical engine with a human character. Works the moment the app is installed, and supports a real strength limiter from 1000 to 2600 — a good sparring partner rather than a wall.

Play

Play against either engine at five levels — Beginner (~1000), Club Player (~1400), Intermediate (~1700), Advanced (~2000) and Expert (~2400) — with either colour, an optional evaluation bar, hints and live analysis. Or play against a human-like bot built on Maia-2, a neural network trained on Lichess games to play like people of a given rating — and see in Analyze and the review what a player at your level would most likely have played. Finished games go straight to the Library and into the review.

Everything else it does

  • Free analysis board — a variation tree, several engine lines at once (MultiPV), evaluation in pawns, win chance or win/draw/loss, arrows and highlights. Sessions save themselves, so yesterday's position is still there.
  • Position editor and FEN/PGN — set up any position, paste or share FEN and PGN through the clipboard.
  • Threat goggles — optional highlighting of hanging pieces and your opponent's threats.
  • Library and folders — every imported game with players, ratings, opening, time control and result. Duplicates are detected on import.
  • Opponent scouting — import another player's games to see the openings they really play, their record by colour and time control, and the tactical weaknesses they repeat. Their games never end up in your puzzles.
  • One profile, two sites — link a Lichess and a Chess.com handle and the games of the same person are counted together.
  • Annotated games — comments, arrows, circles and NAG symbols, with your own variations branching off the game.
  • Engine articles — how Caissa and Arasan think, how strong they are and where they came from, built into the app.
  • One reminder a day at an hour you choose, off until you turn it on. It is a local notification — nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Light, dark or system theme, board themes, coordinates, sounds and haptics — all switchable.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the answer? Write to us — see Support below.

How do I import my games from Lichess or Chess.com?

Open the Library tab and tap the import button. You can:

  • enter your Lichess or Chess.com username to download your recent public games,
  • paste a link to a single game,
  • paste PGN text or pick a PGN file (one file may contain many games).

No password or login is needed — only public games are downloaded. You can save your usernames in Settings → Accounts.

The import found no games. What's wrong?

Check the spelling of the username and that you picked the right site. Only finished, public games are available through the sites' public APIs — games in progress and some private or unrated games are not. Importing needs an internet connection; the analysis afterwards does not.

Why do I need to download Caissa's network?

Caissa evaluates positions with a neural network that is too large to ship inside the app. It is downloaded once, when you first choose Caissa, and then works offline. Until then you can use Arasan, which works straight after installation. You can delete the network to free space in Settings at any time.

Where do my puzzles come from?

From your reviewed games. Every inaccuracy, mistake or blunder you made becomes a puzzle. Review more games and you will get more puzzles. Games of opponents you are scouting are analysed too, but their mistakes never land in your training queue.

Is the analysis really offline? Is my data sent anywhere?

Yes, it is offline. Both engines are built into the app and run on your phone; positions are never sent to a server. Your games, reviews, puzzles and settings are stored only on your device. The network is used only to download games you ask for, to download the Caissa network and the Maia model once, to show ads, for purchases and — if you allow it — for anonymous usage statistics. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

How do I back up or move my games to a new phone?

Because there is no account or cloud, data is not synced automatically. You can share any game as PGN from the Library and import it on the new device. Your Lichess and Chess.com games can simply be imported again by username.

I bought Fianchetto Unlimited. How do I get it on a new device?

Install the app with the same Google or Apple account you used to buy it, open the Unlimited card in Settings and tap Restore purchases. Purchases do not carry over between Android and iOS automatically — if you switch platforms, write to us with the customer ID shown on the Unlimited screen and we will help.

How do I cancel my subscription or ask for a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by the app:

Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Refunds are decided by Google Play or Apple under their own policies; Apple refunds can be requested at reportaproblem.apple.com. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I change my ad and privacy choices?

Go to Settings → Privacy & data. Use Ad privacy choices to change your advertising consent at any time, and switch off Share anonymous usage data if you prefer. On iOS the tracking permission is in the system Settings app under Privacy & Security → Tracking.

How do I delete my data?

Use Settings → Privacy & data → Delete all data, or uninstall the app. There is no account and no copy on our side, so that removes everything. Note that this cannot be undone.

Can I switch the language?

Yes — English and Polish, in Settings. The same switch changes both the interface and the game narration.
